Country of Origin Labelling for "Unpackaged" Imported Seafood

Standard 1.1A.3 of the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code provides that: 

A retail display of unpackaged imported seafood, other than from New Zealand, must bear a label to identify:

  • the country of origin of the seafood, or
  • that the seafood is imported.

The label must:

  • be on or in connection with the display, and
  • have a minimum type size of 9mm - for example:

Product of Vietnam label in 9mm type

or

Imported label in 9mm type

NOTE:  This requirement does not apply to fish that has been coated with or mixed with one or more other foods, or to cooked fish other than cooked prawns.
