South Australian Blood Management Council
The inaugural meeting of the South Australian Blood Management Council was held on the 22 November 2011, with Associate Professor Peter Bardy appointed as Chair of the peak advisory body on blood sector matters in South Australia. The Council brings together leaders in clinical transfusion practice and blood management. Patient Blood Management Guidelines Module 1 - Critical Bleeding/Massive Transfusion
has been released as the first of six patient blood management modules being developed by the National Blood Authority. 
Patient Blood Management Guidelines Module 2 - Perioperative
is also released.

Blood and Blood Products Standard The Australian Commission On Safety And Quality In Health Care: National Safety And Quality Health Service Standards - Standard 7 Blood and Blood Products is now available.

National Stewardship Statement The Australian Health Ministers’ Conference (AHMC) has endorsed a Statement On National Stewardship Expectations for the Supply of Blood and Blood Products.

 


  BloodSafe 

BloodSafe is a blood transfusion safety and quality improvement collaboration between SA Health, the Australian Red Cross Blood Service, public and private hospitals and their transfusion service providers.


Sponsored by the South Australian Department for Health and Ageing, the BloodSafe mission is to coordinate a safety and quality framework for all steps of blood transfusion practice to improve patient outcomes and ensure sufficiency of blood supply.


The BloodSafe website provides a range of tools and resources for health professionals and the general public including:
