Expanded Specialist Training Program (ESTP)

The ESTP program is a Commonwealth initiative aimed at increasing specialist training in non-conventional settings such as private practice, private hospital, community and rural and remote locations. The program was developed to address the shortages in both training supervisors and training places that will arise in the near further as medical schools vastly increase their output. ESTP is therefore primarily targeted at training although can of course aid service provision especially in disadvantaged areas.

Modbury Hospital returns to SA management

Premier Mike Rann has just announced the transfer of Modbury Hospital management back to the Public Health Sector, effective from July 1, 2007.
From this date, responsibility for the management and operation of Modbury Hospital will fall under the Acute Services Directorate of Central Northern Adelaide Health Service.
A transition phase and handover process will commence immediately with a major component of the transfer being the recruitment of approximately seven hundred former Healthscope employees.
The transfer back to the public system will mean closer collaboration with our network of hospitals across Australia to provide the best possible care and treatment for all South Australians. |

The Intern & Trainee Medical Officer Incentive Package

Health Minister John Hill announced the million-dollar package at the inaugural Medical Careers Expo on 28 May 06, says it is about recognising the value of our home grown medical talent and trying to keep young doctors in South Australia.
“The message to these graduates is that the State Government and indeed all of South Australia values their commitment, their hard work and all their efforts in studying medicine,’’ he said.
The Intern and Trainee Medical Officer Incentive Package is ongoing and will be available from 2006 onwards, which includes:
• A 2% pay bonus for final year medical students who sign intern contracts. • Relocation assistance of up to $5000 for all new trainee medical officers from interstate. • An annual Medical Careers Expo to highlight working opportunities in South Australia.
