  Emergency Demand Management 

The following Emergency Demand Management policy series apply to all publicly funded services and programs of the South Australian Department of Health. This series of policies focus on increasing capacity for mental health services to manage mental health emergencies through a system response to identified problems, which emphasise continuity, integration and good practice.

P1-02 Emergency Demand Management Best Practice
This policy provides an overview for the Emergency Demand Management policy series and outlines the range of strategies that the health system in South Australia will adopt to better manage acute mental health emergency demand as part of the reform of mental health services in the State.

P2-02 Acute Mental Health Inpatients
This policy is concerned with access to and provision of treatment for people of all ages who require admission to an acute mental health in-patient facility (approved treatment centre).

This policy outlines the steps that will be taken by mental health services to ensure acute mental health inpatient beds (in approved treatment centres) are available for consumers identified as requiring admission.

In developing the series of policies and procedures for mental health emergency demand management, the role and function of ACIS has been reviewed, with the aim of ensuring it is a reliable, efficient and expert access point for all people requiring assistance for mental health issues.

I2-03 Mapping the Clinical Process
The following series of maps has been prepared to assist each mental health service with implementation of the emergency demand management policy and procedure series.
