Have a Pap smear every two years Why have a Pap smear? Pap smears every two years find the early warning signs of cervix cancer (cancer of the neck of the womb). The cervix has millions of tiny cells. Sometimes changes happen to some of these cells without you knowing. These changes in the cells can be treated to prevent cervix cancer developing. Who needs a Pap smear? All women who have ever had sex. How often? Every two years. What if I’ve had a hysterectomy? You may still need Pap smears. Talk to your doctor. What if I’m past the change of life (menopause)? Yes, you still need to have Pap smears:

When and how do I get a reminder? If you are overdue for a Pap smear or any treatment you will be sent a reminder letter. What if I don’t want to be on the system?
Tell your Doctor when you have your Pap smear if you don’t
want your name and address recorded on the reminder system.
