Education & training

The Immunisation Section offers one day workshops which will be of benefit to those who are interested in, or are involved in delivering immunisation programs.

Workshops are in high demand and the first 35 people to register interest will receive a letter of offer. Registrations that are unsuccessful for the first available workshop will be offered alternative workshop dates when available.

To place your name on a waiting list, please contact Carmen Hewitt on 1300 232 272, alternatively, you can provide your details on the Immunisation the Basics registration form (DOC 344KB) and we will contact you when we have new dates and venues available.

On Line Learning Packages

The following on-line learning material is available for health professionals to gain additional knowledge in the provision of immunisation programs.

  • Influenza Prevention (currently being updated) - Australian Practice Nurses Association (APNA)
    This interactive online learning course has been designed to provide GPs and nurses with concise, practice-based information to support the safe administration of influenza vaccines to individuals greater or equal to 6 months of age.
    Duration: approx. 1.5 hours. Nurses: 1.5 CPD hours / GPs: Total 3 Category 2 points.

  • Immunology for Immunisers - Health Protection Agency, United Kingdom

    A series of short animated videos on how the immune system fights infection and responds to vaccination.

  • History of Vaccines: How Vaccines Work - The College of Physicians of Philadelphia
    An animation showing how the different parts of the immune system respond to vaccination and how that response protects the body from a specific disease. Test your knowledge with the Vaccine Response Activity.

  • Sanofi Pasteur have developed an informative pertussis website www.whoopingcough.com.au focusing on 4 key areas: learning about whooping cough including an interactive quiz, recognising the disease through real cases, understanding what's happening in each state and educating your family and friends.
