National funded projects with a focus on Mental Health (MH) Promotion (P),
Prevention (P) and Early Intervention (EI)—MH PPEI

< Mindframe
A National Media Project including the Mindframe Media Education and Training Project that seeks to influence the media industry to report mental illness accurately and sensitively and the ResponseAbility undergraduate curriculum for secondary school teachers and journalism students. Resources have been developed for the mental health sector on working with the media to support accurate and appropriate reporting of suicide and mental illness. (Based in Newcastle, NSW)

< MindMatters
A national program to increase mental health literacy in school students and develop teachers’ skills in addressing mental health issues. The suite of initiatives includes the core MindMatters program, MindMatters Plus, MindMatters Plus General Practice and Families Matter. Representatives from the Department of Health, including Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and Department of Education and Children’s Services are on the Mindmatters State Working Party to coordinate program delivery in South Australia. (Based in Adelaide)

< beyondblue
A national initiative to “reduce the prevalence, risks for and the impact of depressive disorders within the Australian community”. Priorities for action for 2005-2010 include: community awareness and destigmatisation, consumer and carer participation, prevention and early intervention, primary care and targeted research. Planning with beyondblue in South Australia regarding future initiatives and programs is currently underway. (Based in Melbourne)

< depressioNET
depressioNET broadly aims to:
• increase understanding of depression;
• reduce the stigma people with depression feel;
• encourage and assist access to treatment;
• provide support and assistance during treatment; and
• educate on-going management and/or relapse prevention.
The purpose of depressioNet is to empower people to make informed choices and find solutions to the challenges of living with depression through the provision of information, help and a 24 hour web based support line. (Based in Melbourne)

< Auseinet (Australian Network for Promotion, Prevention and Early Intervention for Mental Health)
A national project, funded by the Australian Government, Department of Health and Ageing (DOHA) under the Mental Health Strategy and the National Suicide Prevention Strategy. Auseinet is currently working with the Department of Health regarding the ongoing development of mental health promotion, prevention and early intervention initiatives including increasing the communities’ awareness of mental health and ways to reduce stigma. (Based in Adelaide)

< Living Is For Everyone (LIFE)
A national framework for suicide prevention activities across Australia. Consultations in relation to revising the existing LIFE framework have previously been conducted by Auseinet in partnership with the state based DOHA and the Department of Health in South Australia. The revised website, developed by Auseinet, will provide access to a broad range of information about resources, events and projects which support suicide prevention in Australia.

< Children of Parents affected by a Mental Illness (COPMI)
A national initiative, based in Adelaide, that aims to promote better outcomes for children of parents with a mental illness. Resources including guidelines and associated materials have been developed to assist individuals and services that work with children of parents with a mental illness. A training program is currently underway in South Australia. (Based in Adelaide)
