  • Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding is a major determinant of infant health. In particular exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months has a positive impact on the incidence of gastrointestinal and respiratory illness which can affect a baby’s ability to thrive. Low birth weight and failure to thrive are linked to the onset of obesity and chronic disease later in life. Breastfeeding offers immunological protection and is particularly important for pre-term and low birth weight babies offering protection for these vulnerable infants.
