Physical Activity

Participation in physical activity is recognised as an important factor in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, some cancers, some musculoskeletal disorders, and mental health conditions. A more sedentary lifestyle and technological advances have lead to a decrease in levels of activity and an associated increase in obesity. Regular levels of sufficient physical activity (achieved by approximately half of the South Australian population over the age of 18 years) are encouraged to reduce health risks.

National Physical Activity Guidelines

ADULTS need to undertake at least 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity on most, preferably all, days of the week.
Guidelines for adults.

CHILDREN should undertake at least 60 minutes of vigorous activity and up to several hours of activity each day, and are encouraged to limit screen based activities (sedentary behaviours) to 2 hours per day.
Guidelines for 5-12 year olds and 12-18 year olds.
